1) Tell me about yourself Intro

Best structure: Present role → 1–2 wins → why this role.

2) Why should we hire you? Value

Best structure: Their need → your skill → proof → impact.

Example: “You need someone who can [PRIORITY]. I’ve done this by [ACTION], leading to [RESULT]. I can bring the same approach here to help you [OUTCOME].”

3) Why do you want this job? Motivation

Best structure: Role fit → company fit → growth.

Example: “This role matches my experience in [SKILL/AREA]. I’m also excited about [company/mission/product]. It’s a great next step because it lets me [grow/do more of X] while delivering [business impact].”

4) What are your strengths? Strengths

Best structure: Pick 2 strengths → proof → relevance to role.

Example: “My top strengths are [strength 1] and [strength 2]. For example, I [ACTION] which led to [RESULT]. These are useful here because the role needs [NEED].”

5) What is your weakness? Self-awareness

Best structure: Real weakness → action → improvement.

Example: “I used to [weakness]. I addressed it by [system/training], and now I [new habit]. It improved my work because [result].”

6) Tell me about a failure / mistake Growth

Best structure: Situation → mistake → fix → lesson → better result later.

Example: “I once [mistake] which caused [impact]. I took responsibility, fixed it by [action], and learned [lesson]. After that, I [improvement] and achieved [result].”

7) Tell me about a conflict at work Teamwork

Best structure: Calm facts → your role → align → result.

Example: “There was a disagreement about [topic]. I set up a quick discussion, clarified goals, and proposed [solution]. We agreed on [plan], and it led to [result].”

8) How do you handle pressure? Stress

Best structure: Method → example → outcome.

Example: “I handle pressure by [prioritising], communicating early, and breaking work into steps. For example, during [situation] I [action] and delivered [result] on time.”

9) Tell me about a time you showed leadership Leadership

Best structure: Problem → stepped up → actions → result.

12) Biggest achievement Impact

Best structure: Goal → action → numbers → why it matters.

13) Explain an employment gap Confidence

Best structure: Simple reason → what you did → now ready.

Example: “I had a gap due to [reason]. During that time I [learning/project]. I’m now ready to return and contribute in [area].”

14) Why are you leaving your current job? Reason

Best structure: Positive reason → growth → alignment.

Example: “I’m looking for a role with more focus on [area]. I’ve built strong experience in [current], and I’m ready to grow into [target] which this role offers.”

15) What are your salary expectations? Salary

Best structure: Ask range → show flexibility → give range if needed.

Example: “I’m flexible and I’d like to understand the full scope first. Could you share the budget range? Based on market rates, I’d expect [£X–£Y] depending on responsibilities and total package.”

16) Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Goals

Best structure: Skill growth → impact → ownership.

Example: “In 5 years I want to be strong in [skills], delivering larger outcomes in [area], and taking more ownership. This role is a good step because it builds [experience].”

17) You seem overqualified / underqualified Fit

Best structure: Confirm interest → explain fit → reassure.

Example: “I understand. I’m interested because [reason]. I can add value quickly in [area], and I’m looking for a role where I can grow in [new area] long-term.”

18) You don’t have direct experience Transferable

Best structure: Transferable skill → proof → learning speed.

Example: “While I haven’t done [exact task] directly, I have strong experience in [related skill]. For example, I [proof]. I learn fast and can get up to speed on [area] quickly.”

19) How do you manage multiple priorities? Organisation

Best structure: Prioritise → communicate → track → deliver.

Example: “I clarify urgency and impact, confirm deadlines, then track tasks in [system]. I communicate early if risks appear. This helped me deliver [result] in [situation].”

20) How do you handle feedback? Coachability

Best structure: Open mindset → clarify → act → follow-up.

Best structure: 1 company fact → 1 role link → values.

22) Describe your working style Style

Best structure: Plan → communicate → deliver.

Example: “I work best with clear priorities and regular check-ins. I plan my week, communicate progress early, and focus on outcomes. This helped me [result] in [context].”

23) Tell me about a difficult manager/stakeholder Stakeholders

Best structure: Respectful → align goals → adapt → result.

Example: “We had different styles. I focused on shared goals, clarified expectations, and adapted communication. It improved collaboration and we achieved [result].”

24) When can you start? Logistics

Best structure: Be clear → show flexibility.

Example: “My notice period is [X weeks], so I can start on [date]. If needed, I can be flexible with handover planning.”

25) What questions should you ask the interviewer? Closing

Best structure: Ask about success, priorities, team, next steps.

Examples:

  • “What does success look like in the first 90 days?”
  • “What are the top priorities for this role right now?”
  • “How does the team measure performance?”
